28 Oct 2021 1:06 PM | Michele O'Bright (Administrator)

It is with great pleasure to present a Distinguished Membership of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE) to:

  • André Duranceau
  • Glyn Jamieson

The criteria for this award is “being a distinguished person who has achieved prominence in the field of the esophagus and related diseases, and who has contributed to its advancement”.

Both professors have contributed in an extraordinary way to the ISDE, and the field of esophageal disease. Here are some of their notable achievements.

André Duranceau

  • Represented Canada and North America on ISDE executive committees, and served as President of the Society from 2004 to 2006.
  • Convened the Society’s highly successful 7th World Congress in Montreal in 1998.
  • Led the transition of the Society to its current multidisciplinary membership.
  • Served as Editor of Diseases of the Esophagus from 2008 to 2014, enhancing the quality and status of the journal.
  • Professor Duranceau has trained many esophageal surgeons from all over the world and is a mentor to countless esophageal and thoracic surgeons. His willingness to share his expertise has impacted esophageal disease management well beyond Montreal and Canada.

Glyn Jamieson

  • Advocated for ISDE in Australia and New Zealand and represented them on committees in the 1990’s and 2000’s.
  • Significantly led the bid for, and then convened the ISDE’s successful World Congress in Adelaide, Australia in 2006.
  • Contributed strongly to the field of esophagology with countless scholarly contributions. He edited, cowrote and published what at the time was the definitive textbook on esophageal disease in 1988 – “Surgery of the Oesophagus”. He has published more than 350 peer reviewed scientific papers across his career.

We thank both André Duranceau and Glyn Jamieson for their time, accomplishments and for advancing our field and leaving a legacy for future generations.
