This first EACSGE Symposium will have a clear focus on the outcomes of disease biology and evolution; in addition, innovative study protocols, translational and early clinical studies on esophageal adenocarcinoma and Barrett’s esophagus will be presented.  Advanced Program.

The aim of the meeting is that discussion among eminent biologists, oncologists, pathologists, gastroenterologists and surgeons, will produce research programs aimed to identify new therapeutic strategies based on the identification of case by case biological patterns by means of bio-molecular prognostic and progression markers.

This multi-disciplinary meeting is offered to clinicians and scientists in the field of genomic medicine, pathology, gastroenterology, oncology and surgery with special interest in esophageal diseases.

Registration and information on abstract submission and deadline are available online.

4th International Meeting of the Federation of Neurogastroenterology and Motility

    March 24-29 in Adelaide Australia

    Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Australasian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association (ANGMA), it is my pleasure to invite you to FNM 2020 which will take place in Adelaide, Australia March 24-29, 2020. We are delighted that ISDE has agreed to endorse this meeting.

FNM is the umbrella organization of international multidisciplinary societies dedicated to the study of motility disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, neurogastroenterology and functional gut disorders. ANGMA is delighted to be hosting the first such meeting held in the Southern Hemisphere.

This meeting will showcase research from surgeons, physicians and bench scientists and we have prepared an extensive multidisciplinary program which we hope you will find very interesting and informative.

Preceding the formal Scientific Program, there will be a strong Postgraduate Course which will provide a update of our field and will prove invaluable to our trainees. A masterclass in the POEM procedure will be held, and various satellite meetings will round off an exceptional week of science.

Adelaide is famous for its outstanding wine, food and arts culture. The Convention Centre is in close proximity to many pristine beaches. FNM2020 will be held at the end of the Australian summer, providing the ideal climate to enjoy the meeting and the attractions that Adelaide and surrounding areas have to offer.

With the Australian dollar currently at a relatively low level, flights, accommodation and tourism can be remarkably inexpensive. We hope to be able to welcome you to Adelaide for FNM 2020. Please visit our web page for further information: www.fnm2020.org.au

    Kind regards,

Dr Geoff Kohn MBBS, MSurg, FRACS, FACS

Watch the Discussion on Assessment in Barrett’s Esophagus and Risks for Progression to Cancer

    Roundtable 4. Episode 2.

Barrett’s Esophagus is associated with long-term gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and is a risk factor for esophageal cancer. Current practice is to screen select patients who have multiple risk factors for esophageal cancer and monitor those patients diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus for development of precancerous change (dysplasia). Patients who are at higher risk of progressing to esophageal cancer may benefit from endoscopic therapy.

An expert roundtable discussion on the management of Barrett’s Esophagus was recorded in three episodes during the 16th World Congress for Esophageal Diseases in Vienna, Austria. In Episode 2 our panelists discuss high quality exams and biopsy protocols, risks for progression to cancer, endoscopic enhanced imaging technologies, and more.

    Thanks to our international panelists:

    • Vani Konda, Baylor University Medical Center, USA
    • Gary Falk, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Philadelphia, USA
    • Prateek Sharma, University of Kansas School of Medicine and VA Medical Center, USA
    • Peter Siersema, Radboud University Medical Center, Netherlands
    • Kenneth Wang, Mayo Clinic Rochester, USA

JR Siewert’s clinical focus was oncological surgery, especially of the upper gastrointestinal tract but also functional, benign diseases of the esophagus and stomach. These were also the main subjects of his clinical research: refinements of the technique for esophageal and gastric surgery, prognostic factors of esophageal and gastric cancer, neoadjuvant therapy, and response prediction. The classification of adenocarcinomas of the esophagogastric junction in Type I, II, and III is combined with his name.
